Cool new Gadget

I just received an awesome new gadget. It is the Humminbird SmartCast RF 35 Fishifinder Watch. Basically it is a watch (all the usual features) that can act as a mini fishfinder (or what we old folks used to call depth finder) It has a sensor that you cast out and reel in. As it comes in it gives you the bottom contour, depth, fish and the surface temp. All on the Watch! You can also attach a lure under the sensor and make sure you are keeping it where the fish are. This will probably work really well with jigs or live bait. i have only used mine once but i had so much fun with it I forgot to actually fish! Check it out!

What's Your Line...

Ah, fishing line. Remember when you were a Stren person or a Trilene person. The good old days! My how lines have changed. One of the more popular lines out is Power Pro. A multifilament line that is thin, super strong, with little to no stretch. The 20lb test is the same diameter as 6lb mono. Make sure you tie the correct knots! I have a lot of saltwater people using it. They can throw lighter lures but be able to back it up if something big hits. Very good for bass fisherman fishing in the sticks also. For me it is kind of weird. Everthing is so positive when you strike. I am beginning to appreciate it. Well my next test is with Yo-Zuri Hybrid Fluorocarbon Polymer Alloy line (i think it can still be called line).

If I could only find that 3000 yd spool of Original Stren (Yellow) I bought in 1979!

You Say Ra pa la, I say Rap a la...

First, Ra pa la sounds better.

Second, is the original floating minnow the greatest lure in the creation of mankind? Grab an F9 or F11 in silver or gold (my personal favorite) and you can catch practically anything freshwater, anytime. I use a gold F7 or F9 about 95% of the time I am fishing for trout in the Eastern Sierra (Californy). I catch 6" planter rainbows, brooks and 4 lbs browns from those streams. I have nailed bass at Clear Lake with the same lures. It is staggering that one lure can do it all.

The rest of the Rapala line are no slouches either.

Got better? Yeah, sure kid!

A New Life...

Let's talk fishing! This blog will cover anything and all things fishing. Important subjects such as: are Rapalas the best lure ever, are lures designed to catch fish or fisherman, can catfish bait ever be too disgusting? These and more to follow.
